Some mothers often ask: “Who has treated their child with ADHD and hyperactivity?” In this article, I will share my personal experience with my child’s ADHD treatment and the steps that helped us achieve real improvement over time.

The Importance of Treating Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

At the beginning, specialists at Ehtwaa Center explained the importance of treating Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), as proper treatment helps the child to:

  • Play and communicate with siblings and friends more effectively, with less aggression.
  • Perform school tasks and daily activities better.
  • Listen to teachers’ instructions and follow classroom rules, improving learning ability.
  • Reduce bad mood, depressive feelings, and the tendency to isolate.

They also advised me on how to deal with my child and emphasized the importance of educating myself about ADHD symptoms and how the disorder affects behavior. Most importantly, they confirmed that ADHD treatment is not only medication—it also requires behavioral therapy.

Behavioral Therapy Program for ADHD

Ehtwaa Center designed an intensive treatment plan for my child, which included:

  • Talk therapy
  • Behavior improvement strategies specifically designed for hyperactivity and inattention
  • Medication, as needed, under medical supervision

They also provided me with several practical techniques to use at home to help improve my child’s behavior and support better self-control. Over time, I noticed gradual improvements. In addition, they shared recommendations with my child’s teachers about classroom strategies and learning support.

Strategies I Used With My Child Who Has ADHD

  • I followed the treatment team’s guidance step by step, including:
  • Creating a daily schedule and following it consistently.
  • Assigning specific places for toys and school supplies to reduce chaos.
  • Keeping my child away from distractions as much as possible.
  • Encouraging positive behavior through rewards and reinforcement.
  • Setting clear, small, achievable goals and choosing simple activities he enjoys (sports and hobbies).
  • Ensuring regular physical activity, as exercise helps increase dopamine and serotonin, which can positively impact focus and attention.
  • Using stickers and reminder charts to help him stay on task and avoid giving up.
  • Allowing short breaks during tasks that require focus and concentration.
  • Spending around 30 minutes daily in green outdoor areas, which can help reduce ADHD symptoms.

After that, I created a stable daily routine and a healthier diet to support my child’s emotional and physical balance. Teachers at school also played an important role. Below are the most important methods we applied.

Improving Sleep and Nutrition for Children With ADHD

Ehtwaa Center recommended specific sleep and nutrition tips that can significantly reduce hyperactivity symptoms and support better attention, including:

  • Setting a consistent bedtime every day.
  • Preventing screen time (phone, tablet, TV) for at least one hour before sleep.
  • Reducing intense physical activity in the evening.
  • Scheduling meals at fixed times, with no more than 3 hours between meals.
  • Reducing complex carbohydrates and heavy proteins in the evening to decrease excessive alertness.
  • Testing minerals commonly deficient in children with ADHD, such as zinc, iron, and magnesium—correcting deficiencies may reduce symptoms.
  • Increasing Omega-3 intake by eating fish such as sardines, tuna, and salmon.

Changes Teachers Made at School to Support ADHD

Teachers also supported my child and helped reduce the severity of ADHD symptoms through:

  • Writing homework clearly on paper or online.
  • Seating my child in a quiet area to reduce distractions and improve focus.
  • Giving extra time to complete school tasks.
  • Providing a daily report to update me on his school performance.

Medication Treatment for ADHD (Hyperactivity and Inattention)

Doctors at Ehtwaa Center prescribed certain medications for my child, but they emphasized that medication alone is not enough. They also explained that side effects vary from one child to another, so they asked me to monitor any side effects and report them to help adjust the best dosage and medication type.

ADHD medication often includes stimulants, which many children respond well to. These medications can positively affect thinking, behavior, and academic performance. They explained possible side effects, such as:

  • Decreased appetite and weight loss
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Occasional stomach pain
  • Mood swings, headaches, irritability, or nervousness

They also stressed the importance of not stopping medication suddenly. Any change must be done gradually and only under a doctor’s supervision to reduce withdrawal effects and side effects.
